Production to DR storage replication support (Netapp) for RHEV

Latest response

Does RHEV support replicated storage for DR site ?

we are having NetApp storage in production as well as in DR. we are planning to use storage level replication so that DR storage will have exact copies of PR.

In that if we create VM in PR and replicate the underlying storage with DR, will it show the newly created unassigned LV for VM at DR storage domain ?

What is the solution for DR Site if we have storage feature such as replication ?

My objective is to have VM on PR and DR at same level in terms of disk, OS and application installed in it, so that in case of emergency if PR goes down, I can use DR site. Does Red Hat has any solution for this for RHEV ?

This article is a bit dated, but is relevant:

There was also a session on this at Summit 2014 (you may have to dig to find it):

There is a moderate amount of "messing about" to spin up the DR side of the equation if/when you decide to do so. The storage domains/volumes/network-interfaces/etc... are identified by UUID and need some attention to get everything working. But... it has been done and seemed pretty straight-forward from the presentation.

Hey James,

The link is not valid.

Thanks James for sharing the docs. it has given good pointer. But my concern is in production we have FC storage whereas at DR it is iscsi.

Again after first time replicating storage, if somewhow I manage to create DR setup with iscsi storage (if possible) in that case PR and DR will be same.

I have other concerns such as :

If I create VM in PR it UUID will be replicated to DR. but if I create VM in DR and if replication happened from PR to DR (one way) whether UUID for VM created on DR will be gone ? I know I need to check this part from storage vendor whether replication will keep exact replica of PR on DR.

If that is the case then from storage site I need to add 1 more LUN to DR for additional VMs and that should not be part of replication. In that case DR will have extra LUN attached.

please correct me if I am understanding wrong.

Hello RHEV Users, this article is two years old now. Are the information still up to date?

Best regards, Timo
