wrong resolution of after update?

Posted on

Hi, please advise why this happens and where to look for solution.

The latest RHEL9.4 installer from RHEL website installed 5.14.0-427.42.1.el9_4.x86_64 kernel. The installation process proceeds at max resolution of 1920x1200 (DellU2412M monitors and Nvidia NVS300 card). The installed RHEL 9.4 boots and operates at max available resolution, the DellU2412M monitors are recognized as such in Display settings, and xrandr outputs all available resolutions up to max 1920x1200.

Auto-update to 5.14.0-503.11.1.el9_5.x86_64 kernel drops resolution to 640x480 during installation. The installed RHEL 9.5 only allows max resolution of 1024x768 only in user acct using Display settings, monitors are not recognized (Unknown display in Display settings), and xrandr only shows max resolution of 1024x768.

In root acct, 1024x768 cannot be set in Display settings as at 640x480 the needed fields are off screen and cannot be scrolled to.

Next update to 5.14.0-503.14.1.el9_5.x86_64 kernel does not resolve the issue, everything mentioned above remains the same.

After booting back to 5.14.0-427.42.1.el9_4.x86_64 kernel, RHEL 9.4 works as above, but booting to either of the updated kernels reproduces the issue.

Is this the issue with updated nouveau drivers? But resolution appears to be set right after initial boot, that is before installation or update begins or completes.

The same issue observed when install of Centos Stream 9 latest release was attempted, which could be only done in text mode as at resolution 640x480 GUI goes off screen and is not scrollable.
