[CEPH] Linux and Ceph upgrade - Questions

Posted on

Hi guys!

We want to upgrade our Ceph environment as a whole. The current system operational of Ceph is "CentOS Linux release 7.8.2003 (Core)" and the Ceph version is "ceph 14.2.15 nautilus (stable)".

From the Ceph documentation, to run the Quincy version you need CentOS on version 8, so in this situation, I understand that you need to upgrade the operating system first. Then it will be necessary to upload Ceph to the desired version.

We've never done this process, the question is:

1) Is it possible to carry out this process? OS upgrade followed by Ceph upgrade.
2) Does Ceph accept Nautilus upgrade to the latest available version or does it just accept version-by-version jump? For example: from Nautilus to Octopus, then Pacific and Quincy.
3) Will Ceph support a server with a much higher version (either OS and Ceph) to be reintegrated into the cluster?
4) Is there a standard procedure to be followed?

If anyone has already been through this situation and wants to expose the experiences faced, feel free.
