How create our own NTP pool for internal usage?

Latest response

We have one NTP (Linux) server and some services time is synchronizing with the server.
We are going to add another NTP server but we want create pool like public pool in our internal network instead of add new server address to time configuration on each server.
Is that possible or we have to add second address or use DNS record or something like that?

Hi Davoud,

Of course you can do it.

A simple DNS record would suffice. An example:

a) Create DNS resource record, say, pool-ntp.mycompany.org with IP addresses of all NTP servers (in this example, six reference clocks).

b) Add this statement in /etc/chrony.conf:

pool-ntp.mycompany.org burst iburst maxsources 6

c) Restart chronyd and test:

$ sudo chronyc sources

That is it.
