Hi Jose,

libx11-devel is available from the default server channel (repo) for RHEL. Have you registered the system to RHN (Red Hat Network)?

we discuss that in: How do I apply package updates from the Red Hat Network?

The direct link to the list of libx11 devel packages (for all versions and architectures, so please pick one that matches your system, el6 for RHEL 6, el5 for RHEL 5, x86_64 for 64bit, etc) is available here.

Please do read through How do I apply package updates from the Red Hat Network? first though as we think that will be a more convenient way to update RHEL packages, rather than downloading RPM files individually.

Mark

What to do next?

You really want to use the yum command. If downloading the libX11-devel package manually, then you'd have to get all required ones into a directory and install them in one shot.

Akemi.. Thank you a lot for your suggestions. Frankly, I am so new at this that have a hard time following as I have a slow pace stripping off all the Windows bad habits.

Which command is used to download to a directory? Do I create the directory first in the Download folder ot the tmp folder?

I know only about YUM but not sure if what you mean is that there is a separate command to download files and then install with the YUM command? What is the other command to download?

For example, how I select and download the pkgconfig(kbproto) file? From where to where I get this file?

You can create a new directory anywhere you like. cd to that directory and download the rpm files to install by using, fo example, the wget command.

Using yum is the recommended method as it takes care of dependencies for you. However, if for some reason you need to do this manually, download all rpm files to be installed into a directory and run:

yum localinstall *.rpm

For example, how I select and download the pkgconfig(kbproto) file?
From where to where I get this file?

You can use yum to find that out:

yum whatprovides "pkgconfig(kbproto)"
