Sharing a NTFS usb drive via Samba

Latest response

i am attempting to share an external USB drive that is formatted NTFS.
I installed NTFS-3g onto REDHAT 8.
My share in smb.conf is:

[backup]
comment = Backup Device
path = /media/usb-drive/Backups
valid users = bup
browseable = yes
guest ok = no
writable = yes

i have my home directories shared via:

[homes]
comment = Home Directories
valid users = %S, %D%w%S
browseable = No
read only = No
inherit acls = Yes

the home system works fine
but when i try to connect to backup, using user bup, windows reports:
you might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact.....

please note that since it is a ntfs drive the privilages on the backups folder is root:root

any help would be appreciated.

other things that i have tried: modified fstab to mount drive as:

/dev/sdc1 /media/usb-dev ntfs defaults,umask=0022,uid=1002,gid=1003 0 0

which works, producing:

drwxr-xr-x. 3 root root 21 Apr 23 2020 ..

drwxr-xr-x 1 bup samba 0 Aug 11 09:06 Backups

-rwxr-xr-x 1 bup samba 4096 Aug 10 20:07 ._.DS_Store

-rwxr-xr-x 1 bup samba 8196 Aug 10 20:08 .DS_Store

-rwxr-xr-x 2 bup samba 868296 Nov 25 2019 'Install Discovery for Mac.dmg'

-rwxr-xr-x 2 bup samba 1114992 Nov 25 2019 'Install Discovery for Windows.exe'

drwxr-xr-x 1 bup samba 0 Aug 10 19:48 netgear_downloader

drwxr-xr-x 1 bup samba 0 Aug 10 19:48 .ReadyDLNA

note that my share is the Backups directory.

in windows i try to log in as the user bup.

i still receive the permission error in windows

found issue it was a permission problem.
