Unable to register with RHEL subscription manager using developer account

Using a VM started up with vagrant using generic/rhel7

Using the command: subscription-manager register, followed by entering credentials results in the following error,

Unable to verify server's identity: EOF occurred in violation of protocol (_ssl.c:618)
