RHEL7 - PHP version, Jun 2021

Latest response

Checking latest fully supported PHP version on RHEL7

cat /etc/redhat-release
Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 7.9 (Maipo)
repoquery --repoid "rhel-server-rhscl-7-rpms" "rh-php*"
rh-php73-php-0:7.3.20-1.el7.x86_64

I only see version 7.3, but on RHEL8, it's showing as 7.4?

The latest package in the main RHEL 7 Server channel is php-5.4.16-48.

As you found, Software Collections 3.7 includes PHP 7.3.20 in the rh-php73 package.

The latest in RHEL8 is 7.4.6-4.

RHEL7 and older would stabilise on one upstream package version and backport. SCL was one method to offer later package versions which could be run alongside the main channel package.

RHEL8 uses a new concept called AppStream to provide packages in the main channel using yum modules:

Thanks for clarification, so it sounds like PHP 7.3 is the highest SCL version supplied by RH for RHEL7, and that PHP 7.4 has not made it into SCL yet.

It's a bit strange, because MariaDB 10.5 does exist in SCL on RHEL7, e.g. 'rh-mariadb105-mariadb.x86_64'
