Not able to fix initrd-switch-root.service

Posted on

I update my RHEL 8 Server frequently manually using Cockpit console. A week ago, I saw a message that the system has booted up into the emergency mode. On seeing the details, it said that a service named "initrd-switch-root" has failed to start. I tried restarting it from the systemctl but got no luck. Even the Red Hat's guide to fixing it does not seem very transparent to me about the complete way to fix it. I can afford an OS reinstall but when I mounted that disk into a fresh install, it gave error: "unknown filesystem type: LVM2_member". I'd be really grateful to the community if someone could post a complete fix for the same, for not-so-knowledgeable people like me. I have attached the screenshots of the problem for your reference.
