Correct choices for Satellite 'Change Power State'

I'd like to use the host action 'Change power state' to gracefully reboot servers after applying security upgrades etc. There's a bunch of different power states listed, which one do I use? What's the difference between 'Poweroff' and 'Stop'? What's the difference between 'Reboot', 'Reset' and 'Cycle'? What is 'Soft'? And finally, where is the info for this written?
