Mp4 in RHEL 8.0, why won't it play

Latest response

How do I get RHEL 8 to read mp4 files?

Hi Mahmudul,

MP4 codecs are not included in RHEL because of licence issues. You could install the gstreamer-libav package from RPM
Fusion, but that is not possible right now because the RPM Fusion repository is not set up for RHEL 8 yet. Another option
would be to install the VLC media player application as a flatpak package which should include the necessary mp4 codecs.
As I myself have the gstreamer-libav package installed, I can't tell you if the flatpak works without it - just give it a try ... :)

flatpak remote-add --if-not-exists flathub https://dl.flathub.org/repo/flathub.flatpakrepo
flatpak install flathub org.videolan.VLC

Thanks Christian Labisch, But I find another way Im using google chrome for mp4 and it works fine. I will wait for VLC official release for RHEL 8

Hi Mahmudul,

There won't be an "official release for RHEL 8" ... the flatpak version is just different method/way to install VLC. :)
