NFS cant cd entire path but one directory at a time works

Latest response

After changing the nas storage device NFS cant cd entire path but one directory at a time works. For example cd /mnt/home/xxx I get a permission denied, but if I do cd /mnt (works) then cd home (works)

Hello Gene,

Are you by chance concurrently using NFS with autofs?

Also, the NAS device, what/who is the manufacturer?

Are there any clues in /var/log/messages?

What version of RHEL are you using that this fails on? Solutions range widely based on the version of RHEL.

The NAS device, do you have any control over it? Are there sub-mounts that are underneath the main export?

Are there useful logs on the NAS device?

More details will help those volunteers (and Red-Hatters) help ya out. This solution link here at Red Hat is a very wild stab at this.

ADDED Consider (if you have access) running a tail -f on the NAS device (if possible, some NAS devices you get a GUI and nothing to really watch), and while running a tail against the log, see what the error is for attempting to go to a sub-directory. Otherwise, dig into whatever available logs the NAS device (sorry, I don't know what NAS you are using) and see if there are any useful clues from any logs you might have access to.

If you have a storage team (maybe you have a storage team, maybe not), ask them about the NAS logs.

Thanks/regards

RJ
