That is nice. Anything new that you observed in this recent release, or any major changes.

Hi Sadashiva,

Most of the changes (mentioned in the release notes) we can find have been made more under the hood. What
astonishes me to see is that many gnome packages were re-based on the GNOME 3.28 stack. The times when
people criticized Red Hat for providing 'old and outdated software' have passed. We are having a very modern
system ... and this trend continues with RHEL 7.6. Now I am looking forward to see the release of RHEL 8 ... :)

Christian

Hi Christian,

That is impressive. I tried an update from RHEL7.5 to RHEL7.6 beta release and found that update went smoothly and system came up with beta kernel without any hiccups. However, this update was tested on a much less loaded VM. The binary image file of RHEL7.6 release is much bigger:

[root@localhost ~]# rpm -qi kernel|egrep "Version|Release|Size"
Version : 3.10.0
Release : 862.11.6.el7
Size : 64777970
Version : 3.10.0
Release : 933.el7
Size : 66184739
[root@localhost ~]# cat /etc/redhat-release
Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 7.6 Beta (Maipo)
[root@localhost ~]# uname -r
3.10.0-933.el7.x86_64

Cool Sadashiva, generally I recommend to perform a clean installation and hence I installed RHEL 7.6 Beta from scratch. But I have to admit that Red Hat did a great job regarding the upgrade option, my upgrade (testing) attempt from RHEL 7.4 to RHEL 7.5 went smoothly too, all is running without any single problem since. Maybe I will do it again once the final stable version of RHEL 7.6 gets released. So I'm impressed as you are, but one thing's for sure, RHEL 8 will definitely be a fresh installation. :)

Christian

Hi All,

Here are my first impressions : the installation process went straight forward, I didn't experience any noticeable problems.
RHEL 7.6 is running smoothly and the system doesn't feel like a Beta release at all, everything is polished to a stable state.
The only thing worth mentioning is that the rhel-7-server-beta-rpms repository needs to be enabled ... out of the box only
the rhel-7-server-rpms repository is enabled. It's not really an issue, but to receive beta updates, the repo has to be added.

Regards,
Christian
