my system RHEL 7.4 got infected by the "bill gates" virus and I am also interested by the community suggestions

Hi GD,

You can install the ClamAV antivirus solution from the EPEL repository :
sudo yum install clamav clamav-scanner clamav-update
You already know how to add and enable the EPEL repository. :)

Thanks for answering my question, very helpful. :)

You're welcome, I'm glad that you find it to be useful ... by the way, I'm using ClamAV on my systems. :)

Christian

Thanks, I will use ClamAV sounds like the best for Linux. :)

Good choice, I have never experienced any unsolvable problem ... ClamAV just works as expected. :)

Christian

I forgot to ask is the graphical interface called “ClamTK” available also? Thanks! :)

Yes, you can download the clamtk .rpm file from the clamtk project's website and install it manually. :)

Christian

Thanks! :)

You're welcome, keep in mind that you have to install updated clamtk versions manually as well. :)

Christian

Thanks.

All,

ClamAV is a good choice.

McAfee is a good alternative, if you need support.

Is Comodo, or Sophos any good also? Thanks!

Me personally, I don't recommend those (by Microsoft inspired) antivirus alternatives. They tend
to integrate themselves deeply into the system and nobody exactly knows which (personal) data
they are collecting and sending back from your system, just two reasons why I'm not using them.
Also - as Linux is not Windows, you know ... but that would lead to another endless discussion. :)

Christian

I was worried about these types of antivirus programs leaking info back to the vendor, I prefer to not leak any info. Is ClamAV safe to use? Does it phone home at all?

ClamAV is an open source solution, and (AFAIK) ... ClamAV does not "phone home" anything ... :)

Christian

That's awesome, I prefer no data leaks. :)

Can you run McAfee without tainting your kernel ie without kernel module?

I'm wondering the same thing also.
