It is unfortunate that you don't have backup of the required file system. In a normal scenario, XFS doesn't need repair, however, on certain instances it prompts for repair. So, it is always recommended to keep a backup strategy in place to face worst situations. Using '-L' option along with 'xfs_repair' could result in further data loss and corrupt file system, as per the man page of 'xfs_repair. You may have to take image backup using 'xfs_metadump' which would help you further troubleshoot, however, it is recommended to get in touch with Red Hat technical team regarding this as this technically complicated. So, my suggestion is to log a case with Red Hat regarding this. https://access.redhat.com/solutions/1194613
Hi Sadiq,
Sadashiva is right with everything he says ... first rule : always have backups of your system partition(s) ! Whenever there are
bigger changes, create a new one, I always have a minimum of five backups stored on different locations. My tool of choice is
Clonezilla - I am using it for many years for system backup and restoration tasks and it never failed to do the job correctly. :)
