Migrate hosts from Spacewalk to Satellite

Latest response

Hi,
that's the firts time I've setup a new Satellite server. We have a spacewalk installation (managed by a former colleague) and now I'd like to migrate all our RHEL hosts to Satellite.

I performed installation and tried to add only one host and it works. I was reading about Bootstrap script but it needs a host group before run python script.

Anyone has experience with this task?

Regards,
Fabio

If you are migrating/registering a system for content-only, you are not required to use a hostgroup with bootstrap.py

The --skip foreman option is explicitly created for this. When it is used, the only options required are

  • servername (-s)
  • organization (-o)
  • activation key (-a)

Example follows:

./bootstrap.py -s satellite.example.com \
  -o Example \
  -a ak_Reg_To_Dev_EL7 \
  --enablerepos=rhel-7-server-satellite-tools-6.3-rpms \
  --skip-foreman

HI Rich, what do you mean by "content-only"?

Fabio

If I am not wrong, content only means just for patching purposes.

By "content only" I believe Rich means "if you are only using Satellite to manage software and errata on the managed hosts".

Correct. I am referring to registering a system for content (software), errata, and most specifically, NOT Puppet.

As you are making the transition from Satellite 5 to Satellite 6, I suggest you refer to the documentation available at Product Documentation for Red Hat Satellite 6.3, specifically the "Transitioning from Red Hat Satellite 5 to Red Hat Satellite 6" section. The Transition Guide describes the workflows and procedures required to transition managed hosts from Satellite 5 to Satellite 6.

Please ask if you have any further questions.
