Unfortunately not yet compatible with RH Satellite 6.3

Hi Mr. Kootstra, Could you please expand on that? I'm running Pulp instead of Satellite 6.3, but using the same upstream cdn.redhat.com mirrors and wanted to see if what you are seeing relates to what I'm seeing.

I was able to pull down 57 new RPMs this morning from the main RHEL 7.5 server channel but attempting to do any updates on a RHEL 7.4 box shows what looks like unmet dependencies, thus an incomplete package mirror of upstream.

Thanks!

Hi Kodiak,

I can confirm the dependency issues when trying to upgrade - hence I decided to perform a clean installation.
This is what I generally recommend to do - the installation went smoothly without any noticeable problem. :)

Christian

Hi Kodiak,

You can call me Jan Gerrit. See my posting about a bugzilla.

Jan Gerrit

Kodiak,

This is a concern, can you paste in the dependency errors? Inline upgrade should definitely work out of the box.

Hi PixelDrift, The CDN network seems to have finished propagating the release, I continued to hammer it until all the packages had been mirrored to our in-house Pulp server. No more multilib! I should just relax until noon ET when these minors drop.

Historically the CDNs in APAC have had a similar problem when new releases are announced.. so this is good to know all the same. Cheers!

Sorry, but what is "APAC"? Thanks!

Asia Pacific.. sorry.. us Australians like abbreviating everything!

Hi Jan Gerrit,

I suggest that you wait a little bit, because I think that the repository servers are still in the process of syncing. :)

Christian

All,

I quote from support case: 02074325

Welcome to Red Hat Technical Support!!!

1) Have you taken snapshot of your satellite server before running upgrade?

2) Its not recommended to update to RHEL7.5 as found some bugs on functionality of satellite 6.3 on RHEL 7.5, so its not recommended to upgrade to RHEL7.5 till next release of satellite server i.e. Satellite 6.3.1

For more details, please refer below bugzilla:

====================

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1330431

===================

3) If you have older snapshot, then please restore it and use satellite server for now. Once satellite 6.3.1 will get release then we will proceed to upgrade the base OS to RHEL7.5 along with satellite upgrade.

So it is not a simple wait for reposync's to complete.

Regards,

Jan Gerrit

Thank you very much for this information, Jan Gerrit !
I don't have Satellite, so I have no experience with it. :)

Christian

Thanks for the hint, check this out:

Packages installed and system configured ... my first impression : it's a rock solid stable edition, a great release.
Thanks to the developers and engineers and to everybody else being involved, you all have done a great job ! :)

Excellent that buildah is now fully supported.
https://rhelblog.redhat.com/2018/04/10/container-related-changes-in-red-hat-enterprise-linux-7-5/

I have been moving build pipelines over to using buildah over the last month or so, and it is an excellent solution for container creation. The Red Hatters involved should be commended on how quickly they managed to get such a mature tool to market. https://github.com/projectatomic/buildah

One concern I have with the OverlayFS default is that XFS partitions created by the installer in 7.4 did not support OverlayFS (ftype option).. and need to be re-created to resolve the issue. Hoping this has been updated in the 7.5 installer.

Interesting also that docker-latest is dropped, so there must be some confidence in the main docker package (feature) stability/capabilities. I think this will be misinterpreted by the wider audience and Red Hat should provide some additional details advising that they aren't dropping docker, just the docker-latest package.

Hi PixelDrift.NET and Kodiak,

We talk about EMEA. Europe Middle East and Africa. So there are more regional abbreviations.

If you use McAfee Endpoint Security for Linux Threat Prevention, do not upgrade to 7.5 at this time. I have confirmed that the new kernel is incompatible with this product and a panic will be the most likely result when the McAfee Endpoint Security for Linux Threat Prevention services are started. I was able to do a crash dump review and it reported a panic with the daemon process associated with this product. If I boot back to the latest 7.4 kernel or older, no issues.

Hi Brian,

Thanks for sharing ... though I don't think that many users have this Security Suite installed on a RHEL system. :)

Christian

Brian,

We also run McAfee Endpoint Security Threat Prevention 10.2.2 on certain RH linux systems. I can confirm that we are also seeing the same problem when upgrading to RH 7.5. I will try to call McAfee support over the next few days.
