Conflicts while installing rhevm
I'm a rookie and I'm trying to learn to setup a VDI Server, I was trying to install rhevm as the instructions said. But it ended with a conflict message.
Processing Conflict: ovirt-engine-setup-plugin-ovirt-engine-common-4.1.9.2-0.1.el7.noarch conflicts freeipa-server
--> Processing Conflict: ovirt-engine-setup-plugin-ovirt-engine-common-4.1.9.2-0.1.el7.noarch conflicts ipa-server
--> Processing Conflict: ovirt-engine-4.1.9.2-0.1.el7.noarch conflicts freeipa-server
--> Processing Conflict: ovirt-engine-4.1.9.2-0.1.el7.noarch conflicts ipa-server
So I did some searching and worked around it using "yum install rhevm --skip-broken".
Will it be an issue ?
Responses
Hi Prince,
I apologize in the delay for someone responding to your topic. I would never recommend the use of --skip-broken when installing/configuring/updating/upgrading RHV-M or a Host. If a conflict arises there is generally a deeper issue of concern that should be addressed. I have seen this before when a .iso was downloaded and used but unavoidably had become corrupted/had issues even if the initial install seemed to complete ok. Two recommendations I would have is this:
- Redownload the RHEL 7.4 ISO and do a complete fresh install and then continue on the instructions for installing RHV-M
And/or
- Open a new support case so we can ensure all is right and address any other issues/concerns
I vaguely remember from rhev3.x that rhevm and the ipa server should not be deployed on the same host. Checking on my RHV4 hosted engine:
# rpm -qa --qf '[%{name},%{conflicts}\n]' | grep ipa
libipa_hbac,(none)
eap7-resteasy-multipart-provider,(none)
authconfig,freeipa-client
authconfig,ipa-client
ovirt-engine,freeipa-server
ovirt-engine,ipa-server
sssd-ipa,sssd
python-iniparse,(none)
selinux-policy-targeted,freeipa-server-selinux
ovirt-engine-setup-plugin-ovirt-engine-common,ipa-server
ovirt-engine-setup-plugin-ovirt-engine-common,freeipa-server
The conflict cannot be resolved by a fresh download and install. By nature ovirt-engine and free-ipa will have issues running on the same host.
Hi Siem,
In that regard you are correct the RHV-M and free-ipa or any other aaa/authentication application should never be ran directly on the Manager or on a Virtual Machine in that same environment (yes this has been a concern with other sites prior).
All the best
