Stacking Virtual Datacenter Licenses

Latest response

I've been handed over the reigns for our companies Satellite installation and thus far, there have only been a few issues, but I am still learning this product. This one is confusing. We are not supposed to be able to stack Virtual licenses, yet only one guest seems to be complaining.

I have multiple virtual machines, all with three virtual sockets. All are fully entitled, one is partially entitled; however, according to both Satellite and subscription manager, the same subscription is being used, on the same host, for these two guests.

Note: these two servers are identical. One was cloned from the other. All updates applied, RHEL 7.4. Only difference is name/IP, of course.

Do you have virt-who installed/configured to properly be able to map virtual machines to hypervisors? Also, when you say you cloned the VM, was it cloned before or after being registered to Satellite?

Colin,

As Tony asks, the critical point here is whether or not you cloned one VM from the other, before or after the first was registered to Satellite. When a RHEL instance is registered, it is provided a unique identifier (UUID). If you clone a VM after it is registered, both will have the same UUID, making it impossible for Satellite to separate them.

If this is the case, I recommend you de-register the cloned VM, and re-register it to Satellite.
