Server with GUI
Hi support team,
We have a Red Hat Enterprise Linux for HPC Computer Node installation, and need to install GUI functionality for a CFD-program.
Is it possible to install "Server with GUI" in some way, or is there an alternativ way to solve this?
I cannot find the "Server with GUI" using
yum groups list
Please advice how to proceed.
Best regards,
/Micael

You may not have enabled rhel-7-server-rpms repository. First, verify the repo's enabled on your computer using "subscription-manager repos --list-enabled", if you don't see "rhel-7-server-rpms" then enable this to get "Server with GUI" packages using the command "subscription-manager repos --enable rhel-7-server-rpms", after this you could run the command "yum groupinstall "Server with GUI" provided your subscriptions permits it.
You could run the command "subscription-manager list --available" to know the available repo channels. Otherwise, you could run "subscription-manager repos --list" which would show up all the repos which are available which you can use . So, locate the one which says "rhel-7-server-rpms" this might have not enabled which would show up as "Enabled: 0" ,if so then enable this repo using the command "subscription-manager repos --enable rhel-7-server-rpms"
Hello Micael,
It might not be an option to run a GUI on this product. Unfortunately I cannot find the product on the Red Hat website, so I cannot do an installation on my test site. Can you provide an URL of the download site?
Regards,
Jan Gerrit P.S. an advise to open a support case does not make sense for you got a Self Support Subscription.
Is it strictly not allowed to install gnome package (GUI related) on these systems (HPC compute nodes). May be it is by design these systems doesn't need GUI? My knowledge on this topic (HPC related) is limited, hence, I'm asking.... I could sense here is that it could be because of a lot of packages that it would pull up to get graphical mode working, which may hamper the simplicity of the system. Otherwise, we could simply hookup an ISO of RHEL7 and get the graphical mode working.
Jan, I'd appreciate your inputs on this. Thanks.
