Limit content views by release for hosts version 5.6 and older

Our enterprise is new to using Satellite. We've successfully stood up an environment and I am in the process of designing content views, host collections, etc to manage our servers. We have several servers running old releases of RHEL 5, some going back as far as 5.2. Our current direction is to create content views that will keep hosts updated, but remain within major release versions. This is fairly easy to accomplish for all versions back to 5.7, but not prior. I'm curious if anyone has suggestions on how I might accomplish this. Essentially, for these older servers, we'd like to keep them up to date from a security perspective, but minimize impact on the application running on them (the majority of these older servers are on these specific releases as this is the highest supported by the product). I'm leaning towards creating a content view with a filter allowing only security errata for these, but wondering if there is a better way of accomplishing the task.
