Where's BaseVMs and Snapshots saving Directories.

Latest response

Hi, I'm useing RHEV-M 4.0.

I'd like to backup some VMs to other backup storage for an Accident.

Read Maintenance Manual, execute ovirt-shell to add snapshot,
that create a snapshot image to ManagedStorage (Maybe MasterStorage?)

What's name of snapshot filename, and where's backup BaseVM images and
Snapshot images fullpath.

Please tell me, please.
Thank you.

I'm not sure if that's the best way to do that, but assuming you are using block storage (FC or iscsi), click on 'Virtual machines' and select your VM, then in the bottom table click 'Snapshots' and select your snapshot. Then on the right table select 'Disks'. The 'Disk Snapshot ID' will correspond with a logical volume on the hypervisor

So for example, if the Disk Snapshot ID is 3fc7d98a... :

# pvscan --cache; lvs -o lv_name,vg_name,attr,size,lv_tags |egrep 'Attr|3fc7d98a'
LV VG Attr LSize LV Tags
  3fc7d98a-7efe-4b74-86c1-49a292bc9ed6 7a4132e5-f66d-4473-881a-a62de7bf3035 -wi-a----- 3.00g IU_5e810b2a-e551-494b-a79f-53733ff0ef0b,MD_12,PU_00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000

I can see that lv 3fc7d98a... is my 3G image before the snapshot was taken. It has a parent id (PU) of 00000... which means it's the base image. In the grep, i can also see logical volume 8b47a42f (1G image). This is the next leaf in the chain, as it's PU is 3fc7d98a... All my writes are currently going to this one.

Thank you for your detailed reply. I'll try to search it (Disk Snapshot ID and base image now) Thank you
