Triple Displays

Latest response

I'm trying to run triple displays on my RHEL 7 box. I have a GT730 that should support three displays. I have installed the NVIDIA drivers as well. However in the displays control panel the option to enable the third display is not available. I'm afraid I don't even know how to troubleshoot this as there are no errors being logged anywhere. The option to enable the third panel just doesn't exist.

Hi Justin,

You should be able to find logs in the /var/log/Xorg.0.log file -- it tends to be quite long, but it includes information about all displays the X server tried to initialize.

Also, check the output of the xrandr command to see if the system is aware of all the monitors you want to use.

I have resolved this and xrandr was the tool for the job. I was able to list available displays and then force it to enable the third display. The error I got there (something about not enough crtcs) led me to dig into my video card specs. Turns out that the GT730 has at least two different chipsets and one of them supports two displays and the other supports 3 displays.

Glad to hear that, Justin.

Could you please share the specific command you used to force the system to enable all displays? It might come in handy to other users who have the same hardware.
