PHP 5.6 Installation / Advice
We have a situation where PHP 5.4 has been flagged by our security scanner as not being up2date. The only other version that is available to use via normal channels is 5.4.16-4x. If we use the RHSC we have access to PHP 5.6 but I feel like this poses all sorts of downwind configuration problems. For instance it installs in /opt and has an odd directory structure that our team is unfamiliar with. It appears that it also requires the RHSC version of apache also installed in /opt.
Will Satellite pick these installs up and notify of patches when they become available? What is the turn around on patches for the RHSC products? Will I get security / bug alerts via my normal channels?

Hi Jeremy,
You should have no problems using (and updating) RHSCL through Satellite. See [Satellite6] How to enable and synchronize RHSCL repository? More info, also about subscriptions that include RHSCL, at How to use Red Hat Software Collections (RHSCL) or Red Hat Developer Toolset (DTS)?
See Red Hat Software Collections Product Life Cycle for support details. (Basically, you'll receive normal security and other updates, but the life cycle is shorter than for RHEL.)
The 'odd' directory structure exists to separate RHSCL software from applications installed as a part of the regular system -- so that you can have multiple versions of the same application installed. Once you install and enable the required collection, its use is transparent -- i.e. even non-RHSCL applications can use an RHSCL-provided resource.
See Red Hat Software Collections 2.3 Release Notes for general installation and usage instructions.
