Not ProLiant- BIOS has corrupted hw-PMU resources
Anyone able to give me some advice here? I've installed RHEL 7.3 workstation on a DELL latitude e6540 for compatibility/support reasons with a particular piece of software I'd like to use. However, RHEL crashes on start up over and over: "[Firmware Bug]: the BIOS has corrupted hw-PMU resouces (MSR 38d is b0)"
Everything I've found so far shows a problem with HP ProLiance performance monitoring functions. I've disabled all three BIOS functions concerned with monitoring/affecting performance functions but I still repro. I'm stuck.
Responses
A cursory Google search shows that people have encountered this problem on other HW as well, including Dell. The consensus seems to be that a BIOS upgrade may (in some cases) help.
An existing RH Customer Portal solution suggests that the ProLiant servers should work even if this error message is displayed -- as that's not the case with your HW, I suggest you open a support case (unless that BIOS upgrade helps).
