GDM and network shares
Hi all:
We have a number of RHEL 6.8 Workstations that we have joined to our Active Directory domain using sssd and samba. The authentication seems to work fine, but we've run into an interesting problem: If we try to start a Gnome session (I assume that it is metacity) on an account that uses a local home directory, it works correctly, but if we try to start one with an account that has an autofs mounted NFS home directory, the Gnome session fails. Logging in without Gnome (i.e. via SSH) works correctly, and the automounted home directory functions as expected. We thought it might have to do with some invalid or corrupt files in the home directory, but clearing the directory has no effect; the needed configuration files appear to be replaced in the home directory as expected after another Gnome login has failed. Does anyone have any advice on how to diagnose this? I see that we no longer have explicit startup of desktop managers, so I'm having a hard time figuring out where to add debug/logging configuration to follow what is happening here.
Thank you,
