Migrating specific servers from Satellite 5.6 to 6.1
I am tasked with installing Satellite 6.1 in our infrastructure. As we still have some RHEL 3 and 4 servers lingering, we will be keeping Satellite 5.6 running until those servers are retired.
In the mean time, I am wondering what the best way to migrate ONLY the RHEL 5.x and above servers to Satellite 6.1, preferably with some form of automation. Do the export tools offer the ability to only export a subset of the servers, or will I be stuck manually re-adding each server by hand?
Thanks...

The first thing that I'd want to look at is what is your planned transition methodology. You have two ways of migration:
- Using the transition tools (spacewalk-export & hammer import) to model your Satellite 6 installation to look like your Satellite 5 installation.
- Build Satellite 6 using the best practices for Satellite 6 and then migrate over the clients.
I lean heavily towards the latter, as Satellite 5 & 6 are very different 'under the hood', so the best practices for building each differ. Answering your question directly (can I move just a subset of my hosts) depends on how you plan to migrate.
- If using the transition tools (spacewalk-export & hammer import), you can edit the export files (which are CSVs) to remove the hosts that you don't wish to import. Note, you don't have to do this explicitly, since the script will fail to import RHEL 3&4 systems due to that content not being available in Satellite 6, but it saves a LOT of time.
- If you are building Satellite 6 'fresh', you can just migrate the clients you desire. This can be automated such as via a script
