libcrypto.so.6 on RHEL 6
suppose a vendor wants to install software that was made for RHEL 5, with a libcrypto.so.6 dependency on RHEL 6, and just wants the RHEL 5 openssl force installed....suppose it works, but what problems could come of this?
could both openssl packages work without issues simultaneously?
Responses
This is likely going into run into issues. Doing it either via yum or rpm will hit conflicts for packages and libraries . The name libcrypto.so.6 is the same on both RHEL 5 and RHEL 6 and hence making them work simultaneously is not going to be feasible.
Its currently possible to install RHEL 5 packages on RHEL 6 , There may problems with dependencies for glibc especially. Openssl is currently dependent on glibc and version 5 and 6 runs a different version .
