Satellite 6 - Why a Content Host is "type host" and not "type Virtual Guest"

Latest response

Hello,

i have a VM on Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 5.11, when i register this VM on Satellite 6 with subscription-manager, the VM has a type "Host" and not a type "Virtual Guest".

Do you know why ?

Thank you.

Check that you have the latest version of subscription-manager, virt-what, and python-rhsm installed. Ideally, you'll see output similar to the below. This will determine if the guest is reporting its facts to the Satellite correctly.

# subscription-manager facts | grep ^virt
virt.host_type: kvm
virt.is_guest: True
virt.uuid: 5d36aeb6-e85e-408c-922b-a88de1a3d870

Hello, Yes, with "subscription-manager facts | grep ^virt", i have : virt.host_type: vmware, xen, xen-dom0 virt.is_guest: False

I verify with "uname -a" : Linux xxx 2.6.18-406.el5xen ==> this VM was migrate form XEN to VMware ... i change the grub.conf (default was xen ...) + reboot

==> Now, all it's ok ! Thank you ! Best Regards Thierry
