how to tell what kills add/remove software

Latest response

Now the add/remove software features crashes on redhat workstation 6.7. I did find that I can run gpk-application but only if I run it as root,
strange as that might seem. Any ideas on figuring out what is bothering it? I don't know where it is logging its crashes.

Maybe I should add that this happened after I uninstalled virtual box (in order to upgrade from 4 to 5).
How can I see what causes the failure of gpk-application? It says it's starting and then that icon disappears with no failure message to the end user.

This is interesting, after the mere passage of time, something like 24 hours, the program now works!
In the meantime I found some advice about trying to diagnose problems with packagekit:
http://www.freedesktop.org/software/PackageKit/pk-bugs.html
Which I won't bother with now unless it happens again.
