undable to su to root

Latest response

Hello,

I am running RHEL 7.1 - 64bit. I am trying to su to root. Every time I try, I get the password prompt, then type my password. I get the following: Last Login: ......... on pts/1, then nothing happens. So it actually logs me in it seems, but I get nothing after that. It was working fine last week. Anyone have any idea what could cause the problem?

Thanks in advance.

William

Hello Management (please state your name),

Do you have console access?
If so, please login as root
check /var/log/messages and /var/log/secure to find out why su root fails.

The situation you describe is too generic too me.

Kind regards,

Jan Gerrit

Jan this is the error I see: abrt-server: Lock file '.lock' is locked by process 17634

after killing this process I get this error:
abrt-server: Unlocked '/var/spool/abrt/ccpp-2015-10-15-16:17:31-18885' (no or corrupted 'time' file)
