Application running in docker container leaking file handles

Running RHEL 7.9 and docker 26.1.4. An application running in docker container is leaking file handles. The system will eventually run out of file handles no matter how high the limit is set. The issue doesn't seem to be in RHEL 8 running docker 27.2
Has anybody else seen this issue?
