Add a Channel to a Red Hat Satellite Server
Hello
I am trying to add the RHN Tools channel to our Satellite server but can see no way of doing it. The documentation, what I have found of it, is very vague.
Does anyone have any experience of doing this ?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Regards
Greg

I believe anyone should have access to rhn-tools (if you have access to the Parent - i.e. rhel-x86_64-server-6)
# satellite-sync --list-channels | grep rhn
# satellite-sync -c rhn-tools-rhel-x86_64-server-6
Also - just an FYI - this forum is not an official support portal. We are volunteers who like to help others. If you need immeidate assistance, I recommend opening a case: https://access.redhat.com/support/cases/new/
There are Red Hat recommendations which are created immediately when you provide the initial information which might help you out as well.
Satellite 5.x or 6.0? (they are very different for this operation).
For Satellite 5.x, you may need to do the initial download of the "RHN Tools" channel content via the "satellite-sync" command; only after that will you be able to see it in the GUI. "satellite-sync --list-channels" will show you the available channels based on your Satellite 5.x license certificate.
For Satellite 6.0, assuming you have already installed an appropriate manifest (equivalent to the 5.x license certificate), you need to use the Content -> Red Hat Subscriptions menu item (then RPM tab, then expand the product list tree until you find the RHN Tools repositories & check the appropriate versions). After enabling the Repositories, go to Content -> Sync Status, Expand All, then check the new repositories and hit the "Synchronize Now" button at the bottom of the page.
This process is a little clearer in the "Installation Guide" (sec. 4.1.1 and 4.1.3) than the "User Guide" (secs. 4.2.1 and 4.2.3...which is not very clear at all about the need to skip all of the "create a Product" steps in 4.2.2 and go directly to the Sync Status steps 4.2.3 for Red Hat-supplied content).
For satellite 6 to add a channel or in case of satellite 6 a repo and sync please read the following articles
