After the update to 3.10.0.-123.4.4.el7 the system is freezing during the boot process

Hi there,

I'm running RHEL 7 on my Notebook the only addition: Nvidia graficcard drivers.

After the update to 3.10.0.-123.4.4.el7 the system is freezing during the boot process

systemd-readahead[572]: Failed to read event: File too large
systemd: systemd-readahead-collect.service: main process exited, code=exited, status=1/FAILURE

if i choose the previous kernel during the boot screen it is smooth sailing.

Any Ideas?

Thanks a lot!

Issue solved,

after deinstalling the NVIDA drivers the system booted without Problems.

Thanks!

Thanks for letting us know how you resolved this, Eric.

thanks for the info, this may help me when I update my Dell laptop to RHEL 7

If you want to use the proprietary Nvidia driver on your system, uninstalling it is not really a "solution". Did you reinstall the driver on the updated kernel? It needs to be reinstalled upon every kernel update - unless you are using kmod-nvidia from ELRepo. The kmod package is kABI-tracking, meaning it survives kernel updates transparently.

You actually have a point in this is not a classical 'solution'.
And (!) it solves my problem quite nicely. ;)

For me it was a lucky guess that there is a connection between the drivers and my problem.
I found a note about nividia dirvers in the bug discussion (https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=696821)
but they thought that it is a unrelated issue...

Guess in my case it wasn't :)

I've reinstalled the drivers.
But I've never heared of kmod-nivida ... (actually I'm extremely experienced with Linux)
Maybe i should look in to this :)

Thank you all!
