  • Custom Kickstart Installation hangs at reboot on new hardware

    Posted on

I have a custom kickstart installation (RHEL 8.8) that I have been using on a tablet that has installed, ejected disc, and rebooted just fine for awhile now.

I recently migrated to a new piece of hardware which is very similar. The only modifications I have made to the installation are:

    1) It is now UEFI instead of legacy. I have modified the grub.cfg file to mimic my isolinux.cfg to the best of my knowledge (mainly calling out the kickstart file and the stage2 parameter)

    2) I changed the adapter names in the network configuration commands

The installation itself seems to complete successfully, and the reboot does begin. However, it reaches the line "Started Tell Plymouth to Jump to Initramfs" and it hangs. I let it sit there for 20 minutes, and could not switch tty at this point. I can Ctrl+Alt+Del to force the reboot to continue, and the disc does eject.

Everything seems fine with the installation, but I am wondering how I can troubleshoot and hopefully resolve this issue? Thanks!
