How can I force yum to provide a user agent so I can allow it through my proxy?

When the yum update process runs, it does not present a valid http user agent when connecting through a proxy server, but shows a -, or hyphen as the user agent. For some users this is a problem if the proxy servers have strict rules or blacklist invalid or unkown user agent strings by default. The following workaround can be considered for such situation...
