What can I do if the screen goes blank after a few minutes?

If you have a screen saver running, you may want to turn it off. In text mode, the kernel will "screen-save" your system unless you use:
setterm -powersave off -blank 0
Otherwise, if you hear disk drives speed up or other sounds, this is probably APM kicking in. Disable APM from starting at boot time by logging in as root and typing ntsysv
