Can I use the fiber Host Bus Adapter (HBA) (qlogic / emulex) that I got with my Dell server with any type of SAN storage device ?

The support of fiber Host Bus Adapter (HBA) is tightly coupled with:

• the type of storage device that is being used in the Storage Area Network (SAN) configuration

• The support matrix with the storage device vendor documents

• the components that are required in a supported configuration:

  • the HBA adapter

  • HBA adapter firmware

  • the Red Hat Enterprise Linux kernel version

  • the HBA driver version

  • the SAN storage device

  • the SAN storage device's firmware and the software (eg. PowerPath and Naviagent) that is being used to configure/manage this environment.

Hence it is important that this configuration is supported by the SAN storage device vendor. It is recommended to contact the SAN storage vendor to setup a supported configuration.
