In Red Hat Enterprise Linux 2.1 I can use bigpages bootup parameter to preallocate a large chunk of memory to be used solely for shared memory. How can I achieve the same goal in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3?

Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3 has replaced bigpages with the hugetlb feature. hugetlb can be set two ways, either through GRUB or LILO's configuration files or dynamically through /etc/sysctl.conf or /proc/sys/vm/hugetlb_pool files.

GRUB or LILO

For /etc/grub.conf:

kernel /vmlinuz-2.4.21-27.0.2.ELsmp ro root=LABEL=/ hugepages=x...
