Using the rescan-scsi-bus.sh script to resize LUNs on a host fails

Issue:
When a LUN is re-sized on the target side, rescan-scsi-bus.sh fails to resize the SCSI devices on the host side. The script runs fine, but the new size does not reflect on the host.
Environment:
RHEL6.3
RHEL6.4
sg3_utils
Diagnostics:
- Create a LUN on the controller and map it to a RHEL6.3+ host.
