Issue

Why do my USB ports appear to transfer data slower when Virtage hardware partitioning is enabled than when I am running bare metal (with Virtage disabled)?

Environment

Virtage hardware partitioning feature (version 57 for BladeSymphony 2000 and version 17 for BladeSymphony 320) enabled on Hitachi BladeSymphony servers. Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.3 and later.

Resolution

Virtage (version 57 on the BladeSymphony 2000 and version 17 on the BladeSymphony 320) uses the USB 1.1 features of the physical USB 2.0 device. Therefore guest operating systems such as Red Hat Enterprise Linux see their USB ports as USB 1.1.

* "Virtage" is a trademark for Hitachi's hardware partitioning system. This trademark is only used in the United States and Japan.
