Issue

Why does Virtage(version 97) with KVM requires a VT-x(Intel Virtualization Technology) feature enabled on logical partitions.

Environment

  • Virtage(version 97) hardware partitioning feature enabled on Hitachi BladeSymphony servers.
  • VT-x(Intel Virtualization Technology) feature enabled on Intel Xeon Prosessor E5 Family.
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.2 or later.

Resolution

KVM requires a VT-x(Intel Virtualization Technology) feature enabled on hardware. Therefore when using KVM on top of Virtage(version 97) logical partition, it is needed that Intel VT-x Virtualization Technology is available on the logical partition.

* "Virtage" is a trademark for Hitachi's hardware partitioning system. This trademark is only used in the United States and Japan.
