How to recover the system, if yum accidentally removed the kernel due to dependency on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5?

When removing a package, for example yum -y remove dmraid will remove kernel also. This is because kernel is a dependency package for dmraid. If the sys admin did not notice this, the system would be unbootable after a reboot.

In this scenario it may be possible to reinstall the kernel without reinstalling the OS.
