My 64-bit, fully-virtualized Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3 guests are experiencing some serious time drift issues. Is there a fix available?

Problem: Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3 systems running the x86-64 kernel, when run as VMWare® guests or fully-virtualized Xen guests, experience serious issues with drifting time. The issue is not present on 32-bit guests.
