Supportability of Firewire (IEEE 1394) in Red Hat Enterprise Linux

Solution Verified - Updated -

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux

Issue

  • In what versions of Red Hat Enterprise Linux is Firewire supported?

Resolution

Firewire is not supported in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 and earlier.

In the past, due to stability issues with the Firewire (IEEE 1394) interface code, Red Hat has not included any support for this hardware in the early Red Hat Enterprise Linux releases. Starting with Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.1, the introduction of Firewire supportability was introduced.

The Firewire subsystem of the kernel was deprecated in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8. In Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9, the Firewire functionality has been disabled in the kernel. For a further detailed list of deprecated functionality within the kernel, please reference the following documentation:

Please note that supportability of Firewire is quite limited. For more information on our support policies, please refer to the following article:
